"Don’t say anything you can’t diagram." This was the rigorous standard set by Eric Berne during his advanced theory-making sessions in San Francisco. While building an evidence-based science of human behavior in the 1960s, Berne demanded that every concept be shaved down to its core and put in layman`s language to ensure measurable progress.
Highlighting these historical insights, the new piece by authors Pamela Levin and Vinícius Sgarbe offers a rare glimpse into the formative years of transactional analysis (TA). The interviewing duo captures Stephen Karpman`s vivid memories of Berne’s legendary Tuesday night meetings, where strict scientific parsimony surprisingly gave way to vibrant, bohemian social gatherings.
This exclusive retrospective serves as a captivating time capsule of an innovative era, detailing how a tight-knit group of pioneers shaped the field`s foundation.

“Look, I’m running a psychotherapy store. You’re coming here to buy something, so you have to tell me what it is you want.” This memorable directive from Dr. Eric Berne highlights the pragmatic, surprisingly direct approach he brought to foundational transactional analysis (TA).
In the illuminating new article by author Pamela Levin, therapist Carol Solomon shares vivid recollections of her early years working with Berne in Carmel, California. Through rigorous questioning, Levin explores Solomon`s monumental dedication to preserving Berne`s personal and professional legacy within the archives at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Library.
This essential conversation provides a rare and humanizing window into the man behind the theory. It also serves as a clinical reminder that delivering simple, universally understood interventions keeps the heart and soul of TA accessible and vibrant for a new generation of practitioners.

This Saturday, May 30, the board of directors of the International Transactional Analysis Association concludes the last of four strategic meetings initiated two weeks ago.
While this photograph does not capture the entirety of the participants—given the fluctuating attendance driven primarily by time zone constraints and the presence of ad hoc contributors—it serves as a tribute to all attendees and a demonstration of accountability to the broader membership.
A multitude of pivotal decisions have been made since the ITAA transitioned into a professional association. Over the coming years, a robust strategy is expected to maintain focus on the projects that ensure institutional cohesion.

Today marks the birthday of Eric Berne, celebrated by thousands of people around the world. Born in 1910, he was the founder of transactional analysis, a living theory that progresses while never forgetting the power and action of love.

"Speaking up in contexts of power asymmetry is risky and is frequently accompanied by a second injury: being blamed, questioned or quietly devalued for what has happened." For many individuals, reporting an unwanted invitation or a crossed professional boundary by a hierarchical superior often leads to subtle pressure and exclusion rather than a sincere apology or resolution.
In a compelling new article, psychologist Lena Kornyeyeva examines this complex relationship between hierarchical authority and self-worth. Relying on the Transactional Analysis (TA) concept of mutual respect and dignity, she explains how powerlessness acts as the ultimate devaluation and stresses the immediate need for fair, effective mechanisms to protect victims.
To foster a thriving environment, professionals must be able to openly discuss these dynamics, as unquestionability creates conditions where power can be misused. Kornyeyeva emphasizes that recognizing harm and encouraging non-devaluing feedback are essential steps to ensuring every community member remains safe, equally responsible, and fundamentally valued.

"We hear from many candidates that the values of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) are consistently upheld and truly reflect the spirit of a global exam event." This powerful sentiment defines the recent International Board of Certification (IBOC) exams, which hosted 30 exam boards and connected colleagues from more than 20 countries over three days.
In her detailed recap of the event, author Nicole Lenner shares how the community united to support candidates with dedication and thoroughness. Even when dealing with technical glitches and last-minute spreadsheet changes, the calm flexibility of administrators, translators and examiners ensured a supportive rite of passage for those pursuing their Certified Transactional Analyst (CTA) and Teaching and Supervising Transactional Analyst (TSTA) credentials.
Join us in congratulating the newly approved practitioners by viewing the complete image gallery of successful candidates. Read the full article to celebrate the volunteers who served as bridge builders between languages, discover what makes these exams eco-friendly in spirit, and save the date for the next round of online boards this October.

"What we tolerate in quiet corners does not stay there; it multiplies, seeping outward, feeding larger ecosystems of harm." From witnessing drone shots of graves dug for children to noticing the casual bias in our daily interactions, we constantly straddle a world divided by protective privilege and profound suffering.
In a deeply reflective new piece, writer Julia Pool examines how these external systems of power and injustice meander through our own psychological landscapes. She challenges us to disrupt the silence close to home, noting that while questioning authority can feel lonely, small acts of refusal and disruption can travel when repeated across many voices.
Pool ultimately asks readers to confront the tension of contradictions within our own identities and to recognize the layers of protection that afford us financial stability and safety. By examining how our comfort sits alongside the suffering of others, we can begin to enact meaningful change in the spaces closest to us.

“The United Kingdom maintained its position as the primary driver of growth with seven new inductees, a figure identical to its January performance.” This continued momentum highlights another strong month for the International Transactional Analysis Association (ITAA), which welcomed 34 new members in February 2026 to further solidify its reach across 14 nations.
In the latest membership breakdown penned by The Script Newsroom, the ITAA experienced a notable surge in representation from India and Italy, which contributed five and four members, respectively. The demographic profile of this cohort remains predominantly female, perfectly consistent with the patterns observed throughout late 2025 and early 2026.
With additional representation arriving from Eastern Europe, alongside new members in Hong Kong and Austria, the association continues to build a robust, borderless professional network. Read the full update to explore this trend of increasing global engagement.

"In 2026, the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into the professional landscape has shifted from the realm of early adoption to a pressing reality of daily life — whether consciously acknowledged or not." This technological shift presents significant challenges and unique opportunities for growth within the Transactional Analysis (TA) community.
Exploring this new frontier, the latest update authored by James Longwell details the progress of the joint European Association for Transactional Analysis (EATA) and International Transactional Analysis Association (ITAA) AI Working Group. The author states that the committee`s clear mandate is to review existing examination systems for the integration, rather than the prohibition, of AI while maintaining the humanistic orientation at the heart of their approach.
As the group transitions from groundwork to an action plan featuring global surveys and internal experimentation, they are drafting formal guidelines for everyone from prospective Certified Transactional Analyst (CTA) candidates to evaluators. These upcoming recommendations favor transparency and disclosure of AI use, aiming to honor traditional standards while responsibly embracing the tools of the future.
